Indians top Minors

The Indians continue to lead the 2010 Minor League with an undefeated record of 6–0 after a shortened week of play due to the July 4th holiday. They won their sixth straight game on Monday, June 28, in a 10–6 defeat of the Reds. Jackson Burmester led all scorers with four singles and three runs scored. Meanwhile Hayden Orme, Tristan Campbell-Knowles and Tony Marinelli all scored twice, and Parker Bleything added one run. Reds’ scores came from Christian Elam, Dylan Rainey, Travis Scarfpin, Jack Runyon, and Amanda and Ethan Perkins.

The Pirates picked up their third win on Wednesday, June 30, by downing the Dragons 19–1. Aamil Wagner singled three times and scored as many runs. Gage Ward, Annabell Smith, Clay Cooper, Joseph Minde-Berman and siblings Caden and Kylie Johnson all scored twice, while one run each was added by Aiden Cooney, Effie Palassis, Drevin Roberts and Jesse Linkhart. The lone Dragons run came when Charlie Keller crossed the plate on an RBI single by Walker Mills.

The Reds tightened their hold on second place with a 21–5 win over the Pirates on Monday, July 5. Jack Runyon and Dylan Rainey both scored three times, while Lucas Hudson-Groves, Yukim Namoto, Albert Glover and siblings Ethan and Amanda Perkins all scored twice. Single runs came from Sulayman Chappelle, Christina Elam, Jacob Woodburn, Victoria Osborne and Yukaiya Nomoto. Pirates Annabell Smith, Gage Ward, Vaughan Hendrickson, and Aamil and Amani Wagner all scored once.

The Pirates finished the week in third place with a record of 4–5, followed by the fourth-place Dragons at 0–7.

Twins remain undefeated

Meanwhile in the Major League, the Twins remain undefeated and in first place, despite being idle over the holiday. The only game played last week saw the Royals outlast the Athletics 9–7 on Wednesday, June 30. Nathan Miller and Nathan Hardman led the Royals scoring with two runs each, while Adam Green, Tom Amrhein, Ahmad Wagner, Jacob Whetsel and James Fulton all scored once. Ian Chick and Carter Collins both scored twice for the A’s, with single scores coming from Devon Perry, Isaiah Taylor and Ethan DeWine.

Minor League games are played at 7 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings, and at 10 a.m. Saturday mornings at Gaunt Park. Major League games are played on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m., Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., also at Gaunt Park.
