Donna Sanders
Born in 1937 and raised in Springfield and Urbana, Ohio, Donna lived most of her adult life in Yellow Springs. Her career included work at Gentile Air Force Station, Fels Research Institute, Morris Bean & Company, CityWide Development Corporation of Montgomery County, Miami Valley AFL-CIO, The Victory Theater in Dayton and the Montgomery County Treasurer’s office. She was a co-founder of the Center Stage Theatrical Company in Yellow Springs. She performed as the Virgin Mary for many years in the annual Christmas play held at the Yellow Springs First Presbyterian Church. She served on the Yellow Springs Community Council and the League of Women Voters of Greene County. Donna also volunteered at the Yellow Springs Senior Center and Friends Care Community, also of Yellow Springs.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Beverly Sanders; stepfather, Chet Sanders; her sister, Revilla Sanders of Dayton and ex-husbands George Harshaw of Pasadena, Calif. and Vaudrey L. Tipton of Yellow Springs.
She leaves behind a brother, Albert “Jack” Sanders; a daughter, Ona Lea Harshaw of Yellow Springs; son Tim Harshaw and daughter-in-law Karla Garrett Harshaw of Springfield; grandchildren Malorie Marie Alice Harshaw-Hess of Portland, Ore., Jason Milton of Dayton and Vincent Vaudrey Harshaw and Alexander Morgan Harshaw of Springfield; great-grandson Malachi Milton of Dayton and many other beloved family members.
Just hours before her departure, Donna expressed her gratitude to all she knew in her life. She said that her life had been good and that she was blessed and regretted only that she didn’t have enough time to say “thank you” and “I love you” to all who touched her life. Her joy and laughter will be missed, but the lives of her family and friends will be forever richer for the time shared with her.
Donna chose to donate her body to the Wright State University School of Medicine. A memorial celebration will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Glen Helen Building, located at 405 Corry St., 4–7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna’s name to the Yellow Springs Tree Committee and Friends Care Community.
