    Juanita Marie Pettit of Yellow Springs died at Greene Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 10. She was 77. She was the only child born to Harry E. and Margaret Brandt on Sept. 5, 1930.

    Jacqueline (Jackie) D. Greene died suddenly on May 12. She was 57. She was born March 3, 1951, to John and Hazel Barton. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Greene; a brother, Howard Barton; and her parents.

    Last week Antioch University threatened legal action against the Village of Yellow Springs in response to the Village’s request that the university dismantle an unauthorized air conditioning unit.

  • Council unanimously urges university to save college

    At their meeting Monday, May 5, members of Village Council unanimously passed a resolution urging that Antioch University keep Antioch College open. “I feel strongly that it’s important for us to take a stand one way or another,” said Council member Lori Askeland, who wrote the resolution.

  • Bakari indicted on drug charges, sought by police

    Yellow Springs police, the Greene County Prosecutor and the Greene County Agencies for Combined Enforcement (A.C.E.) announced at a press conference on Friday, May 2, that a Greene County grand jury has indicted former Yellow Springs resident Umoja Iddi Bakari with 22 counts related to his running a drug ring between Columbus and Yellow Springs.

    Yellow Springs Major League is seeking coaches for the 2008 season and a baseball commissioner to run the league. Those interested in either position can contact Chris Lloyd at 767-9318.

  • Major League sign-ups

    A sign-up event for the Yellow Springs Major League Baseball season will take place at the Gaunt Park field on Friday, May 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, May 10, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Boys and girls ages 11 to 14 are eligible to play.

  • McKinney track team sets records

    The McKinney School track team saw four records fall this past weekend at the Troy Christian Invitational on Saturday, May 3. Leading the way for the boys team was eighth grader Logan Norris, who won all three events he entered and set new school records.
