Georganna Freeman

Georganna Elizabeth Freeman, a longtime resident of Yellow Springs, died on Monday, Jan. 18 at Friends Care Community. She was 88.

Georganna was born to Myrtle (Richardson) and Leonard Rockwell on May 5, 1921 in Piqua. She graduated from Springfield High School.

On Aug. 31, 1921 in Springfield, Georganna married Robert (Skip) L. Freeman Jr., and they remained married for 57 years, living most of that time in Yellow Springs. She raised three of her children while providing child care to many of the children in the community. She was eventually employed by and retired from the Antioch Bookplate Company after 20 years.

Georganna was a swim instructor for many years at Gaunt Park pool and swim instructor and lifeguard at Girl Scout camps Mac-O-Chee and Whip-poor-will. She also taught exercise and swim classes at the YMCAs of Greene and Clark counties. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, bowling, visiting with family and friends and buying gifts to meet the needs of those whom she knew and loved.

Georganna regularly attended Covenant United Methodist Church, was a member of the Retirement Set in Springfield and spent many hours at senior citizen centers in the area where she made numerous friends and acquaintances.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert L. Freeman Jr. and children Cheryl and Ronald Freeman.

Georganna is survived by sister Alta Williams of Los Angeles, Calif., son Allan (Gina) Freeman of Westerville, daughters Janell (Jerome) Wray of Springfield and Elizabeth (Tim) Days of Columbus, and grandchildren Moran, Addison and Kyra Freeman, Shannan, Jerome and Jason Wray and Alexandra and Jazzmin Days. She is also survived by step and adopted grandchildren Neville, Valerie and Gerri Wray, Monique and Timothy Jr. Days and William Banks, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church, located at 529 W. Johnny Lytle Avenue in Springfield on Sunday, Jan. 31. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m., with services following at 4 p.m
