Community meets new school leaders

About 40 villagers turned out to meet and greet three new Yellow Springs school district administrators at an event Saturday evening at the Emporium.
Matthew Housh, the new Mills Lawn Principal, Tim Krier, the new Yellow Springs High School/McKinney principal, and Mario Basora, the candidate for district superintendent who is expected to receive official school board approval at its May 13 meeting, were on hand at the event, which was sponsored by the board of education. Following short remarks, the new leaders mingled with the parents, teachers and community members who had stopped in to meet them.
“We’re all excited,” said Housh about the new group of administrators. “Everyone is personable, creative, positive — the teamwork will build on itself. It’s a great team.”
Housh currently lives in Yellow Springs with his wife, Deb, and son. Krier, of Columbus, plans to move to the village with his family.
While Basora met new faces, his wife and family were out looking for a house in town, he said. The family has wanted to live in Yellow Springs for the two years since they moved to Ohio, he said, because “the values of the community are in line with my family’s.”
“We wanted a small, rural town, yet one that had diversity,” Basora said. “The beauty of Yellow Springs is that it has all that.”
The Basoras, who have two small children, currently live in the Cincinnati area, where he is principal of Wyoming Middle School. They plan to put their home there on the market next week, he said.

I wish them all the BEST of luck; I know it will be SUPER tough, but it is also EXCITING to have so many new folks all at once. Parents, students and staff: PLEASE give these new professionals all your support. Don’t do the “we’ve always done it this way”; it’s time for a change because we can be BETTER and these are the folks to take us there!
