Floyd E. Merritt

Floyd E. “Catfish” Merritt of Xenia died Sunday, May 30, in his residence surrounded by family. He was 70.

Floyd was born October 16, 1939 in Yellow Springs, the son of Donald F. Merritt and Inez Ruth (Willman) Merritt. Floyd attended the House of Prayer in Xenia and was a member of Yellow Springs Lodge #279, I.O.O.F. He was retired from Morris Bean and Company following 44 years of service and was a 1957 graduate of London High School.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Joyce D. (Demmy) Merritt, whom he married July 3, 1958. He is also survived by daughter Karen Ward and daughter Kay Wilson and husband Stephen, all of Xenia; by grandson Kenneth Wilson and wife Angela and granddaughter Tiffany Wilson, all of Xenia; by stepsister Connie Cutlip, stepbrother Robert Hawk and half brothers John A. Hawk and Patrick Hawk, all of Springfield; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Chris Hawk Sr., his son-in-law Rick Ward, his half sister Carol Hawk and his stepbrother, Chris Hawk Jr. Floyd will be remembered as a very loving and caring person who never met a stranger.

Memorial services will be held at a time and date to be announced. Floyd’s family would like to give special thanks to Dayton Hospice for all of their wonderful care and compassion. Memorial contributions may be made to Dayton Hospice.
