The Rolling Pen Book Cafe, now open in the former home of Dolbeer’s Cleaners, is a place to relax, read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee with some homemade cobbler.

According to shop owner Brenda Stone Browder, who is also an author and publisher, each bookstore in town has its own personality, and hers will feature inspirational and Christian works in addition to frequent book readings and signings with local and outside authors.

The grand opening of the book cafe will be on Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. and will include a book reading and her famous peach, cherry, apple and blackberry cobblers, which the Springfield native has sold at Street Fairs for several years.

Browder’s motto is — “Desserts that feed your soul. Books that feed your spirit.”

The author of “On the up and Up: A Survival Guide for Women With Men on the Down Low,” Browder will also run a publishing company from the storefront called Sword of Truth and is looking for local authors of inspirational works.

See an upcoming issue of the News for a full story on the Rolling Pen Book Cafe.

I’m glad to see this shop coming to town. I remember when she had a bookstore in Springfield some years back and hosted local poets. I did one of my first public readings there. Brenda has a wonderful spirit…and the cobbler is so good you hve to take your shoes off to let your toes curl up while you eat it…Can’t wait!!
