Rec soccer begins

Registration for the Yellow Springs youth recreational soccer leagues will be held at the Morgan Building fields on Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A skills clinic and evaluation will follow at 11 a.m. All first- through eighth-grade boys and girls interested in playing should attend. Children in kindergarten and younger do not need to register. The YSHS varsity soccer teams will conduct the skills clinic.

Registration forms may be picked up at the library and the Chamber of Commerce office. Forms will also be distributed during the first week of school. For more information, contact Jim Hardman at 767-2200, Bill or Lynn Hardman at 767-8433 or Bob Curley at 767-7070.

Alumni join YSHS soccer

The annual girls and boys alumni soccer games will be played Saturday, Aug. 21, at the YSHS stadium field. The girls’ game will kick off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m. The high school teams will wear white. Interested alumni are asked to wear a blue shirt to play and to call Bill and Lynn Hardman at 767-8433 with any questions.

Fun Run runs

All runners, joggers and walkers are invited to come out and participate in the 24th Annual Village Fun Run, Sunday, Aug. 22. The two-mile run through town will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the start and finish at Yellow Springs High School. As is traditional, there will be watermelons for the mens and womens winners along with refreshments and various other awards for the finishers. Age groups for awards will be kindergarten and younger; first through third grade; fourth though sixth grade; junior high; high school; open; and the traditional mens and womens categories for those over 30 years of age, in five-year divisions.

The race is also a chance for everyone to meet the 2010 Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School cross country teams. Proceeds from the $3 donation to participate in the race will be used to fund the cross country teams’ activities this fall. Registration for the Fun Run will begin at 5:45 p.m.

Harriers begin

Yellow Springs High School has started its 2010 cross country season with practices this week at 6 p.m. Annually one of the top sports teams in the area, the team this year is no different, with 22 boys and girls already out enjoying the fun. Any students in grades 7–12 interested in joining any of the four teams and participating in the sport of cross country should contact head coach Vince Peters at 767-7424.
