Norman Thomas

Norman L. Thomas, of Yellow Springs, died Monday, Dec. 20. He was 87.

Norman was born on Feb. 7, 1923, in Montana, the son of Otto and Grace (Eubank) Thomas. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred I. (Midge) Nee Bulen, whom he married Dec. 25, 1943, and a loving father to Janet G. (Peter) Mitri of Chesterland, Ohio, Stephen D. (Gina) Thomas of Great Falls, Montana and Jeanne A. (Chuck) Geraci of Xenia. He was a beloved grandfather to Gina, David, Melissa, Michael, Christopher, Leslie and Brad and great-grandfather to Sebastian, Emma, Paige and Austin.

Norman served as a pilot during the Korean War and flew 75 combat missions in the P51 Mustang, earning many awards and citations. He worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base until his retirement.

Norman and his brother-in-law were the proud owners of Dick and Tom’s Luncheonette in Yellow Springs from 1948 to 1957. From 1957 to 1960 he owned the 68 Grill and worked there along with his wife.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their camper throughout the United States, seeing all but three states: Alaska, Hawaii and Nevada.

He had many hobbies over the years, but especially enjoyed painting and woodworking. He will be missed by all who loved him.

The family will receive friends and family Thursday, Dec. 23, 1–2 p.m., at Jackson Lytle and Lewis Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. Interment will follow in Glen Forest Cemetery.
