New librarian at Antioch Midwest

As Antioch University prepares to make a new home at Antioch Midwest, this year Midwest launched its own series of new academic programs and hired librarian Stephen Shaw to serve its local campus.

Having arrived at Midwest this winter, Shaw is currently focused on facilitating access to the school’s main information fount: OhioLINK, a consortium of 88 Ohio college and university libraries and the state library of Ohio. The collective owns 48 million books and thousands of journals, dissertations and other materials available for research needs of students, faculty and staff.

“There’s not as much utilization of OhioLINK as there should be,” Shaw said.

While the Midwest library, a comfortable room on the second floor above the main doors, has a small collection of 3,400 books of its own, the school relies heavily on the collective resources of academic institutions around the state. The Midwest library also has a writing center to help students with writing, research and citation methods.

Shaw earned his PhD in philosophy and served as the librarian of Prairie View A&M University in Texas before coming to Midwest. He lives with his family in Marysville.
