Village to consider bidding on ‘Village Station’

The Village of Yellow Springs is considering whether or not to bid on the vacant lot known as “Village Station,” after the mixed-use development that had been slated for the property since 2006. The .7-acre property located at the corner of Railroad and Dayton Streets is one of the few vacant properties in the central business district, and Village Council considers it a “key” property that should perhaps be under public control, Council President Judith Hempfling said this week.
Council will decide during its meeting on Monday, Oct. 15, whether to deputize Village Manager Laura Curliss to bid on the property at the public auction, which takes place on site on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m.
The property is owned by area resident Matthew Arnovitz and has been rezoned as a planned unit development with plans for 1,200 square feet of commercial, retail and residential space. Developers Arnovitz and Donnell have tried to get the property leased for financing, and haven’t had enough commitments to go forward.
Donnell owns the property directly north of the Village Station.
