April is Wellness Month in YS

The Wellness Association of Yellow Springs (WAYS), the Yellow Springs Community Library and the Yellow Springs Arts Council (YSAC) are collaborating on the first annual “April is Wellness Month” in Yellow Springs. 

At the heart of this month-long event are eight free Wellness presentations offered at the Yellow Springs library. Each presentation is designed to educate, empower and involve the public in modalities and practices for elevating health and wellness, as well as to build community awareness and participation.   Refreshments and door prizes will be offered at some of the presentations.

Brain Fitness Can be Fun

with Carmen Milano, RYT – Thursday, April 4, 6-7:30 pm

Behaviors can change our brains and result in generating new brain cells. Learn what can keep us sharp and happy as we age. Share what works for you!

Transforming Trauma & Cultivating Emotional Resiliency

with Amy Chavez, LMT, CCCE, CLD – Monday April 8th, 6 – 7:30 pm

Explore trauma through the lens of neurobiology, and safety as a somatic (body) experience. Take a new look at anxiety and depression, and learn some insightful ways of dealing with daily stress and chronic stress that often is at the root of dis-ease.

Help Your Child Onto the Wellness Train For Life

with Erika Grushon, DC. – Saturday April 14, 2 to 4 pm

Explore ways to bolster your child’s own healing mechanisms in a natural non-invasive way, how to create trust in your child’s growth process, ideas on how to best triage your child, and ways of making positive connections with your child.

Natural Pain Management

with Eric Rodriguez MH,CCI – Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 6 pm

Many of suffer aches and pains – mild to severe – related to stress, arthritis, fibromyalgia, poor posture, muscle overuse and more. The Culpeper House Conversation Series will discuss safe and effective natural pain management support.

Music Therapy for the Mind, Body, and Soul

with Larisa McHugh MA, MT-BC, RYT – Tuesday, April 23rd

This discussion will introduce participants to music therapy, and demonstrate how to incorporate music for wellness into daily life. Come listen to the music, find your song, and get those creative juices flowing! No formal music training required.

Learn Basic Chair Massage for Family and Friends – Marybeth Wolf, Holistic Bodyworker – Monday April 29th, 6 to 7:30 pm

Participants will be guided in the practice of being present and grounded as they do self-care massage and a simple massage exchange. Bring a friend, or meet someone new.

 On Thursday, April 25, an OM Circle will be held at 7:30pm in the Yellow Springs Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. The event will bring people together to chant OM for 45 minutes. OM is referred to as “the sound of the universe” and is said to have healing effects on those who chant it as well as on the community at large. All are invited to join the circle. Event leaders are Deborah McGee, Polarity Therapist and Energetic Bodyworker, and Douglas Klappich, Reflexologist and Ayurvedic Practitioner.

 

Additionally, several local yoga, dance and fitness schools will offer promotional classes and pricing during April. This will give the community a chance to experience Wellness classes for the first time or expand the classes in which they are currently participating.

    Friday, April 19, 6pm: The Spring Open House & Artist Reception at The Culpeper House, wine, food, music, art, an intro to natropathic herbalism and iridology, and more. Meet local artists Bettina Solas, Scott Stolsenberg, and Patricia High whose work will on display at the center through the spring. Located in the YS Professional Building, 716 Xenia Avenue, YS.

    Tuesday, April 23, 6pm: Food Matters Documentary Screening & Expert Panel Discussion at Antioch University Midwest. Located at the PNC Auditorium, AUM, 900 Dayton Street, YS.
