Frank Thomas Snively, formerly of Yellow Springs, died at his home in Buena Vista, Colo. on June 21. He was born May 19, 1937, in Xenia, to John Homer Snively and Margaret Thomas Snively, and grew up on the family farm in the Yellow Springs and Xenia area.

Frank attended Xenia Township schools and graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1954. He entered Antioch College, where he earned a degree in physics in 1959. From there, he attended California Institute of Technology, where he received a Ph.D. in physics in 1965, studying under Nobel Prize winner Rudolph Mossbauer. Frank remained in southern California, working in research and development for various military and civilian ventures for the TRW and Boeing Corporation, where he remained until his retirement to Buena Vista in 1998.

Throughout his life, Frank was actively involved with academic, intellectual and cultural pursuits, including astronomy, the arts and music. He also enjoyed the earth’s natural beauty by jogging extensively, mountain climbing and touring the country on one of his beloved motorcycles.

Frank is survived by his wife, Susan Prunty Snively, whom he married on June 17, 1967; two sons, Eric David Snively of Athens, Ohio and Joseph Thomas Floyd (Jura) Snively of Canyon Lake, Calif. and grandchildren Jo-Jo, Edward and Adam. He is further survived by siblings Wayne (Linda) Snively of Newberry Springs, Calif.; Clara (James) Quill of Onalaska, Wis. and Emma (Larry) Dixon of Delaware, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank lived his life to the fullest, and when his time came, he insisted upon dying at home, with dignity.

Memorial observances will be held in Colorado at a later date.
