Village artists Beth Holyoke and Käthi Seidl completed a pilot project in December, giving new life to concrete trash cans that had been taken out of commission a few years ago. Commissioned by the Village of YS, the artists created four sets of regular trash and recycling containers, adorned with handmade mosaics that depict scenes of nature, including images of animals that might scavenge for edible trash.

The artists are now preparing to begin on the next phase, creating 11 additional sets of “Art Cans.” A campaign to secure sponsorship for the work began on Jan. 30, and will close on Feb. 28. Levels of sponsorship range from $100 to $1,500 for a set of trash and recycling cans. Businesses, organizations and individuals are encouraged to support this project that will, in a fun and useful way, promote various interests of the YS Community: art, sustainability and the appreciation of nature. Sponsors will be recognized by a plaque on the cans.

For more information on sponsorship, contact Käthi Seidl at seidl@yellowsprings.com or 767-1348.
