Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Mary Ellen Finney, 86, of Cedarville, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 6, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on Dec. 5, 1928, in Osborne, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Johnson) Baldwin. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Finney and Dave Knick, Lynn Hopkins, Sue and Hal Stormont and Chris and Greg Linkhart; grandchildren Nick (Andi) Hopkins, Loren (Kenny) Pace, Matt Hopkins, Dylan Stormont, Kasey Linkhart, Jesse Linkhart and Tyler Linkhart; great-grandchildren Anna Marie and Luke Hopkins and Sophia Pace; sister Judy Andrews; close friends Mabel Haines, Chet Manley, Emma Ferguson and Linda Shaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth “Kenny” Finney in 1995; sister Phyllis Bailey; brothers Donald Baldwin, Billy Baldwin and Phil “Butch” Baldwin; and son-in-law Steven Hopkins.

Mary attended the Cedarville Nazarene Church since they opened their doors. She worked for many years at Baldwin’s Orchard and was a proud member of the AMVETS #14 in Xenia, where she was the main cook and was well known for her sausage gravy and biscuits. Mary was an avid animal lover, especially cats and dogs, but what she loved most was her family. She lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew her as “GG” and loved spending every moment she could with them. She will be deeply missed by her family that she held so closely to her heart, and the memories she leaves behind will be cherished forever.

Viewing will be held on Friday, July 10, 5–8 p.m., at Jackson Lytle and Lewis Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Douglas Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedarville Fire Department, 19 South St., Cedarville, OH 45314 or the Miami Township Fire Rescue, 225 Corry St., Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
