The second annual Gingerbread Festival will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., at Mills Lawn. The event will feature a variety of activities, and all funds raised will benefit the Mills Lawn PTO.

The festival will feature coffee from The Roastery and treats from local bakery Three Leee Cupcakery, and kids are invited to decorate a cookie cottage kit at the Young’s Sweet Shoppe. The Tyke Shop will give kids a chance to do their own holiday shopping, and they can enlist the help of elves in wrapping their gifts. President and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt will arrive in the school library at 11:30 a.m., telling stories and demonstrating Victorian-era toys, and Santa will hold court from noon to 2 p.m., when young festival-goers can stop for a photo and share their holiday gift lists. Those attending can also enter a drawing to win a live tree from Carl and Dorothy Young’s Christmas Trees or to be an official “light flipper” for the Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill.

The main event at the Gingerbread Festival is the gingerbread house contest, where contestants design, bake and decorate their own gingerbread creations at home. Contestants will drop off their completed entries from 10 to 11 a.m. on the day of the contest, and judging will begin at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $10; click here to download an entry form.

Other holiday activities will also be held around Yellow Springs on Dec. 10; horse drawn wagon rides will be offered from noon–3 p.m. downtown, and the Little Art Theatre will hold a screening of “The Polar Express” at 11 a.m. The annual School Forest Festival will be open from 9 a.m.–3 p.m., and those attending can cut their own Christmas trees and enjoy hot chocolate and treats, and the third annual Alternative Gift Fair will be held at the Senior Center from 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., featuring gifts from local nonprofits, with sales to benefit the participating nonprofits.
