In a press release Wednesday evening, Village Manager Patti Bates stated that the Village has been in touch with Craig King of the Ohio Chiefs of Police to obtain names of retired chiefs who live in the area and might be interested in serving as the interim chief in Yellow Springs.

The Village is seeking an interim chief, and beginning the process of finding a new chief, since last week’s resignation of Chief Dave Hale following a New Year’s Eve incident in which local police interacted with citizens in a manner many villagers found too aggressive.

According to Bates, the Village has been contacted by several applicants from previous search processes and also received names from citizens and other outside sources.

The release also states that the Village misspoke in an interview this week for the Yellow Springs News, in stating that internal candidates will not be considered for the interim post. All candidates, including internal candidates who express interest, will be considered, and leadership experience “will be a significant factor in selecting the interim chief,” according to the statement.
