Now, villagers and Miami Township residents are invited to help discern goals from these raw ideas that everyone can agree to move forward with.

It may sound daunting, but Village Council, three Miami Township Trustees, 35 local volunteer leaders, and a professional consultant group with 20 years of experience are literally banking on a visioning process to carry Yellow Springs and Miami Township into the next successful phase. They believe this process can work, and they want to hear your version of a vision for the community.

  • Visioning effort kicks off

    At a work session Monday, May 26, local leaders took the first steps to kick off a community-wide nine-month visioning project. The effort begins with three months of preparation before the first public event.

  • ACP to lead visioning effort

    At its May 4 meeting, Village Council unanimously approved entering into a contract with ACP Visioning & Planning of Columbus to lead the village in a visioning effort. That meeting followed a special Council meeting on April 27 during which Council agreed to move forward with hiring the firm.

  • Council hears from visioning firms

    Council will vote for the final time on the 2009 Village budget on Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in Council chambers at the Bryan Center.  Shown above are actual Village expenditures for streets, police capital projects, parks and economic development for 2007 and 2008 and projected expenditures for 2009. In the left column is the amount a 2006 Village brochure identified as the annual spending breakdown of the property tax levy passed in 2006.  In the brochure circulated before the levy passage, the Village committed to spending 49 percent of annual levy revenues of $743,000 for streets, and 51 percent for human services. The human services segment was further divided into 15.8 percent for Bryan Center capital projects and maintenance, 14.3 percent for pool capital projects and maintenance, 11.8 percent for parks maintenance, 5.35 percent for economic development and 3.75 percent for library capital projects.

    On Monday, March 30, Village Council met in a special meeting with ACP, a Columbus firm that is one of two finalists for the job of leading Yellow Springs in a visioning and planning process. About 25 villagers attended the meeting, along with members of the Visioning Task Force, to hear ACP’s presentation and to ask questions.

  • Council news—Visioning finalists chosen

    At their Feb. 17 meeting, members of Village Council approved two firms as finalists for the job of leading the village in a visioning effort. The finalists are ACP Visioning and Planning of Columbus and a collaboration of the New Mexico-based Regenesis Group and Kinzelman Kline Gossman in Columbus.

  • Roads, security, visioning head Village capital projects

    The repair of roads and sidewalks, the purchase of security and police equipment and the funding of a visioning process were the most expensive 2009 Village general fund capital projects proposed by Manager Mark Cundiff at a recent budget planning workshop.
