    Senior Nerak Patterson was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line at the YSHS track and field Friendship Invitational held in Cedarville on Saturday. Patterson, who skipped running last fall to help out the football team, ran his fastest time in almost three years while placing 35th overall out of 194 finishers.

    On Wednesday, Sept. 8, the golf team hosted Bethel at Locust Hills golf course in Springfield. The team drove, chipped and putted their way through the course on a beautiful early fall day, ultimately losing the match by a score of 172–211.

    The Yellow Springs boys soccer team fell to Springfield Catholic 7–2 last Saturday, Sept. 4, at the school field, but the team put up a spirited battle. Shown above are, left, Bulldogs Eli Biggs and right, Mario Cosey, as they fought to keep control of the ball.

    In the varsity women’s race the Lady Bulldogs improved their season record with a 12th-place finish out of the 23 schools scoring. Ninth grader Talia Boutis, running in the squad’s second position, posted a new season best time of 24:23 while overcoming the challenges of the difficult Liberty Park course.

    The YSHS Bulldog boys soccer team opened its 2010 fall campaign with a 3–0 loss to the Chaminade-Julienne Eagles last Thursday, Aug. 26. Just five minutes into the match a careless Bulldog foul 20 yards in front of their own goal set up a direct free kick for the Eagles. Despite the wall of Bulldogs blocking the kick, Chaminade netted the goal to take the lead.

    Registration for the Yellow Springs youth recreational soccer leagues will be held at the Morgan Building fields on Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A skills clinic and evaluation will follow at 11 a.m. All first- through eighth-grade boys and girls interested in playing should attend.

  • Weekly Sports Announcements

    The Yellow Springs High School boys soccer team will begin pre-season practice on Monday, Aug. 9, with two practices a day: 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 4:30–6:30 p.m. All those interested in playing soccer should bring a soccer ball, water to drink, cleats, running shoes and shin guards to each practice.

    Miller runs at regionals Ninth-grader Lois Miller was the lone runner from Yellow Springs to compete in the Div. regional cross-country meet in Troy on Saturday, Oct. 31.
