    The Lady Bulldog soccer team lost 6–1 to a Sidney Lehman powerhouse on Saturday, Sept. 5, in which Anna Karling Khan scored the team’s only goal, unassisted. The Yellow Springs team then lost 3–0 to Dayton Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when keeper Katie Triplett held back the Warriors with dozens of saves and Lucy Callahan had a near-miss on a goal.

    The Yellow Springs High School girls soccer team lost 3–0 to Miami Valley on Saturday, Aug. 29, and then fell hard at 9–0 against Tecumseh on Monday, Aug. 31. The scores did not tell the whole story, however, and Monday’s game appeared more balanced than Saturday’s. The girls start their season off 0–2.

    The fall Bulldog sports season’s most valuable players, among many other athletes, were honored at the Yellow Springs High School fall sports award ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 5.     Racing against 230 runners on Tuesday, Oct. 14, Jacob GunderKline grabbed a 25-second personal record along with the win at the 23rd annual John Bryan Invitational cross country meet, the largest to date. He led the Bulldogs to their third straight JBI title. (More on this race will appear in next week’s News.)

    It’s been more than 10 years since a YSHS football team has scored 47 points in a football game, let alone in the same game that their opponents scored just 40. But that was the story of the come-from-behind, late-season victory that the Bulldogs tasted on Friday, Oct. 10, against Perry.

    During last Friday night’s home football game between Yellow Springs High School and Fairbanks, Ryan Newsome, left, handed the ball off to Joey Bailey for the Bulldogs. Fairbanks won the game 40–8.

    The YSHS boys soccer team clinched its third straight Metro Buckeye Conference championship last Saturday, Oct. 4, with a 4–0 win over league rival Xenia Christian. With only one MBC contest remaining for Yellow Springs, there are just two possible outcomes for the 2008 league crown.
