    The Lady Bulldogs basketball team achieved a convincing 50–32 victory over Xenia Christian on Monday, Dec. 14, before edging out Jefferson 52–41 on Thursday, Dec. 17. The wins take the girls team to a winning record of 3–2.

    Playing mostly for the fun of the game in their season opener on Friday, Dec. 4, the Bulldog boys basketball team mowed down the Mechanicsburg Indians 61–48. The home crowd cheered on this year’s team, which includes eight seniors, six of them returning, whose bulk and spirit promise a competitive and entertaining winter on the court.

    On Tuesday, March 3, the YSHS boys basketball team upset Bethel, the number-three seed in the Division IV sectional tournament, in a 55–50 victory. The Bulldogs play next on Friday, March 6, against Southeastern, the number-two seed, at Vandalia Butler High School, 8 p.m.

    True to their status as favorites in their respective district Division II races on Saturday, Feb. 21, freshmen Elizabeth Malone and Erika Chick did not let down their fans. The two lone swimmers for Yellow Springs High School managed three first-place finishes and one third-place finish to come in 11th out of 38 schools in the southwest district.

    A Valentine’s Day Senior night produced the most exciting game of the season against Ansonia on Saturday. The girls came through under pressure in the final seconds to score the 65–63 win. Post-game emotions ran high for, left to right, Kristen Foster, Jessica Kellar and Natasha Perry.

    When Erika Chick and Elizabeth Malone swim, they swim to win, and win big. The pair of YSHS freshmen set meet records in the 200 and 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly events at the sectional swim meet held at Trotwood Madison High School on Saturday, Feb. 14.

    The Yellow Springs girls swim team pulled out another strong meet at the Shawnee Invitational on Friday, Jan. 24. With just five swimmers, the Lady Bulldogs placed fourth overall with 58 points out of 17 teams.

    YSHS boys basketball senior Raphael Allen put up 10 points and five steals against Cedarville on Saturday, Jan. 17, to help the Bulldogs toward a 54–43 victory, the team’s third straight win.

    With just seven swimmers, the YSHS girls swim team placed fourth out of 10 teams at the County Invitational on Friday and Sunday, Jan. 16 and 18. The Lady Bulldogs won the 200-medley relay with Erika Chick, Maiya Hodge, Elizabeth Malone and Barbara Jewell in 2.06 minutes by five seconds.

    Yellow Springs High School senior Ashanta Robinson shot the 1,000th point of her basketball career during the home game against Belmont on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Robinson, flanked by her father Ron Robinson, left, and her coach Duncan Thomas, will be honored in a ceremony before the girls home game against Middletown Christian tonight, Thursday, Jan. 8.

    The Yellow Springs High School girls basketball team had just one game at home on Tuesday, Dec. 30, over the holiday break, which went to Belmont 54–50.

  • Bulldog Sports Round-up

    Rapheal Allen revved the Bulldogs up with layups early in the first quarter to pull the team out of an initial slump towards an eventual 57–37 stampede over the Troy Christian Eagles on Friday, Dec. 19.

    The YSHS Lady Bulldogs lost to Troy Christian 52–38 on Thursday, Dec. 18, before serving up a whopping victory of 74–15 against Emmanuel Christian on Saturday, Dec. 20. Yellow Springs then lost to Fairborn, 78–46, on Monday, Dec. 22.

  • Bulldog Sports Roundup

    Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School celebrated the success and hard work of their athletes at the winter sports awards ceremony last week on Thursday, Feb. 28. Members from the girls and boys basketball and swimming teams and the cheerleading squads were honored.
