    A feeling of unmitigated joy suffuses the work of painter Libby Rudolf. While she has painted a range of subjects, including portraits, street scenes and close-ups of flowers, she prefers to paint nature scenes and people in a natural setting.

    This weekend villagers are invited to celebrate two events beloved to the local arts community — the Yellow Springs Banner Festival, and the return of the Yellow Springs Arts Council, or YSAC, permanent collection to the John Bryan Community Center.

    The 34th annual Art on the Lawn is taking place this Saturday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mills Lawn School. The annual event presented by Village Artisans is free to the public.

    Last Saturday’s annual Art on the Lawn represented the 34th year that artists both local and from around the region displayed their wares on the green grass of Mills Lawn School.

  • Sculpture to honor Wheeling Gaunt

    The local effort to erect an “over-life-size” bronze statue of Wheeling Gaunt made a splash at the Yellow Springs Fourth of July parade last summer.     Wheeling Gaunt is a local historical figure who not only deserves to be remembered, but also celebrated on a large scale, says a growing group of local individuals and organizations who have launched an effort to erect a bronze statue of Gaunt in the village.

  • Friends use art to confront illness

    A new Yellow Springs Arts Council show, “Bosom Buddies,” opens on Friday, April 21, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. The show was inspired by the art created by Corrine Bayraktaroglu and friends during her bout with cancer.     “Corrine deals with everything through art,” said Nancy Mellon, speaking recently of her dear friend and frequent art-making collaborator Corrine Bayraktaroglu. The “everything” in this case is breast cancer.
