  • Juried art fair debuts this weekend

    Artists Lisa Vetter and Paul Siefert, who create upcycled clocks, jewelry, lamps, candle holders and other art made from found objects, will sell their wares at the Art & Soul art fair on Saturday.

    The Yellow Springs holiday shopping season begins in earnest this weekend at a new art fair, Art & Soul, where villagers and visitors can find unique handcrafted gifts made by local and out-of-town artists.

    Local artist Sondi Kai will host an opening reception for her exhibit, “Reincarnated: The New Forever Life of Plastic,” at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery (YSAC) on Friday, November 16, from 6 – 9 pm. Ms. Kai will also lead an Artist Talk on December 8 (5-6:30pm) to close her show.

    To be a dancer with an African-American dance company in the Midwest is not your everyday occupation. To also be 49 and still performing with that company is astonishing. To have suffered a critical injury and attempt to come back at that age, with that company, is the gripping story of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s Sheri “Sparkle” Williams. A short film, “Sparkle,” by local filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar, will have its Ohio premiere in Dayton this week.
