  • Yellow Springs sculptor Jon Barlow Hudson installs newest work

    A major stainless steel sculpture by Yellow Springs-based sculptor Jon Barlow Hudson has been installed outside Ohio University’s Clippinger Chemistry Lab, which is being renovated. Entitled “EIDOLON:NATURE,” the work is 27 feet high by 16 feet in diameter.

  • Yellow Springs muralist unveils newest downtown work

    Last week, Yellow Springs-based muralist Pierre Nagley put the final strokes on his latest downtown work: a delicate sunset cascading over a Japanese beach.

  • Writing on the wall

    On Monday, Oct. 31, muralist and artist Pierre Nagley spent hours covering up the tags and graffiti that recently cropped up over his and Lindsay Burke’s tarot mural in Kieth’s Alley.

  • Site design unveiled— Gaunt sculpture park eyed

    After three years, the Wheeling Gaunt sculpture is nearing completion. Anticipating a September unveiling, Village Council heard about plans for the sculpture’s placement in a downtown park at its June 21 regular meeting.

  • Latest Kieth’s Alley mural complete— Unpacking the ‘Tarot of America’

    Located on the rear of the building that houses Current Cuisine/Dark Star Comics/Pangaea, which has been a “free wall” since 1988, the “Tarot of America” features a panoply of social justice themes.

  • ‘Fight hate with love’

    Last weekend, local artist Pierre Nagley pasted a drawing of Emmitt Till on top of a Kieth’s Alley mural he painted last year of George Floyd that had been vandalized with white paint earlier in the week.

  • Mural to honor Virginia Hamilton

    Local artist Pierre Nagley recently started painting a new mural honoring the life and works of famed local author Virginia Hamilton. The mural, located on the wall of the Yellow Springs News building, is being spearheaded by Help Us Make a Nation, or H.U.M.A.N., a recently revived local human rights organization founded here in the ’70s.

  • ‘Psychedelic expressionist’ mural unveiled downtown

    The latest addition to Yellow Springs’ downtown public art scene is a breathtaking mural by villager Anna Burke, which was recently completed behind Rose & Sal’s Vintage Shop on Dayton Street.

  • Sunflower field to receive VIDA award

    The Village of Yellow Springs Arts and Culture Commission will present the Village Inspiration & Design Award, or VIDA, to Dave and Sharen Neuhardt for the sunflower field, which they first planted in 2002.

  • An evolving tradition — VIDA awarded to muralists of YS

    The murals that brighten many walls in the business district of the village are receiving formal recognition — the Village Inspiration and Design Award, or VIDA.
