They are pictured with Daisy , villager Sandy King ’s horse. The Yellow Springs Speech and Debate Team traveled to Toledo recently to compete at Whitmer’s Winter Wonderland Tournament. Sixth graders Zach Underwood and Leilani Agea-Kaleda placed fifth and third, respectively, and seventh grader Gini Meekin took first place with her speech about the “‘Real’ Zombie Apocalypse,” driven by our federal and state politicians. Galen Sieck placed fourth in Lincoln- Douglas Debate, arguing about whether nations should eliminate their nuclear arsenals. Students, parents and other community members interested in seeing the team in action are invited to attend the second annual YS Fearless Forensic Festival on Saturday, Jan. 25, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at Mills Lawn and McKinney/YSHS. With over 300 students from around the state coming to the tournament, volunteers are needed to judge, provide food for judges, help with concessions and the information table and support several other activities.
