James Jackson

James William Jackson of Yellow Springs passed away on May 24. He was 82.
James, better known to his family and friends as Jimmie, was born in Ripley, Ohio, on October 26, 1925. He was the seventh child and third son born to Samuel Robert Jackson and Lora Vaughn Parker. He attended school in Ripley and after graduating high school, he went into the Navy where he served honorably in the South Pacific during the testing of the atomic bomb. After his tour of duty, he returned to Ripley where he was employed as a truck driver picking up and delivering oil. In 1963 he moved to Yellow Springs and married Marilyn Taylor. James was a loving, devoted father to his two children, Jeffrey Allen “Cricket” Jackson of Miamisburg and Tawn Jackson Singh of Yellow Springs. James had a special relationship with his son-in-law, Dr. Jaivir Singh of Bulandshahar, India.
Shortly after his arrival in Yellow Springs, James began working at Antioch College as the head of the maintenance department. He became president of the United Electrical, Radio Machine Workers of America. James served as commander of the local 767 VFW, which every year rented booth space at the bi-annual Yellow Springs street fair and sold barbeque ribs, pork chops and chicken.
James was well known and loved in Yellow Springs. He liked to say he had done electrical work in just about every house in town. He loved to dance and have a good time. James spent the last two years of his life in residence at Friends Care Community. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all the special friends, staff, nurses and doctors who made James’ days filled with smiles and laughter.
James was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Tom and Burney Jackson; three sisters, Jane Willis, Anne Johnson and Virginia Clemens. His two remaining sisters are Frances Hudson of Eastgate Care Rehabilitation Center and Lora E. “Betty” Turner and her husband Thomas. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to whom he was a special uncle. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, in the Jackson Lytle Williams Funeral Home, Yellow Springs.
