In a panel discussion held Thursday night, Aug. 27, and organized by Village Environmental Commission to clarify Cemex’s plans to test burn tires as a partial fuel for the cement plant down the road, the clearest thing that emerged from the panel discussion was the distrust for Cemex among residents of Yellow Springs.
Local drivers should be able to stop dodging trucks and orange barrels soon, as the roadwork on Walnut and Elm Streets is expected to be completed by the end of this week, according to Village Assistant Planner Ed Amrhein.

Jeanne (Adams) Rice died on Aug. 28 in Dayton. She was 85. Before her death, she wrote: “With much appreciation to my many thoughtful friends, and to my loving and dedicated family who have made my life so special.”
Velma R. Duvall died on July 30 at the age of 90. Her family invites villagers to a memorial service to celebrate her life on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 314 Xenia Avenue.
Monica P. Freeman, of Yellow Springs, died on Sunday, August 31. She was 41. Born Oct. 7, 1966, in Newport News, Va., she was a graduate of Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University.
