Council, Trustees receive visioning draft

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The year-long Yellow Springs/Miami Township visioning process has come to an end, and a draft statement listing the results of the process was presented to Council and the Trustees at a special joint meeting on Monday, Aug. 30.

“This is not perfect, but it’s roughly right for this community,” said Jamie Green of ACP Visioning+Planning of Columbus, the firm that oversaw the project.

The 40-page document can be accessed online at http://www.yso.com.

Council members expressed appreciation to the project organizers, including the 28-member visioning steering committee.

The visioning document “gives us a direction of how to move forward,” said Council member Karen Wintrow at the meeting.

Council plans to discuss the document at its regular Sept. 7 meeting, after community members have had an opportunity to read it.

The visioning process draft statement is organized into four initiatives, which, according to the document, “emerged from the public process as critical areas of focus for the community.” The four initiatives are Strengthening the Economy; Managing the Physical Environment; Meeting the Needs of People; and Promoting Energy Conservation and Sustainability. The document contains 52 actions divided into the four initiative areas, with 10 identified as “priority actions” because they received the most support from participants.
