Pete Harner

Paul S. “Pete” Harner died at Greene Memorial Hospital on March 18. He was 93.
Pete was born July 28, 1917 on a farm in Xenia Township. Pete started working on the farm at age 3 and attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse in Old Town. He graduated from Xenia High School in 1935 and continued to work on a farm the rest of his life. During this time, he established the butcher shop in Old Town. He was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau in Greene County. He lived the second half of his life on a farm near Yellow Springs with his first wife Leah Krebbs Harner (1914-1969), and later married his second wife Alvina Guethlein Harner, who died in 1996.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Samuel B. Harner, his mother Isabelle, his sister Clara Harner and two brothers, Wilbur Harner and Orville D. Harner. He is survived by his niece Isabelle Harner Donahey, his nephew John V. Harner, and his wife, Jennie, and his step-son Vincent E. Guethlein. He is also survived by greatnieces and nephews and their children.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at Neeld Funeral Home in Xenia with Rev. Ronald Swiger officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Xenia. Contributions may be made to Greene Memorial Hosptial, c/o the Greene Foundation, 1141 N. Monroe Dr., Xenia, OH 45385, in Pete’s memory.
