FreeShakespeare! is a traveling theater company that has recently graced the Antioch amphitheater with their rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The performance was made possible by funding from John Fleming (from the Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse) and Antioch College. The company is a professional, not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to provide complimentary performances of the works of William Shakespeare, and in doing so broaden our appreciation of language and culture.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is easily one of the Bard’s most recognizable productions. The story is lighthearted and fanciful, with lots of laughs and romantic mismatches. Greg Hall is the director of FreeShakespeare!’s version; he uses minimal costumes and a simple set, but with Shakespeare, the words are enough. The actors perform their parts very well and display a firm grasp of the play’s language.

There will be one more performance at the amphitheater tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The company will also be traveling around Ohio for the next month or so. You can find more information at http://www.freeshakespeare.com
