David Nickell of Yellow Springs died Wednesday, Nov. 7. He was 62.

David was born April 21, 1950, in Cannel City, Ky., the son of Herbert and Jean (Vance) Nickell. David was a very devoted son, loving father and a great brother. He served his country with pride and honor as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. David worked for many years in the area in construction and was a master crafter of concrete. He loved the outdoors, loved old western novels and movies and was one of the best pool shooters in the state. He always found a reason to be on the go. Yellow Springs lost a legend and a friend to many in the town he called home. While he has parted from this earth, his free spirit lives on.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Nickell of Yellow Springs; one son, Christopher (Amy) Nickell of Herriman, Utah; one sister, Linda Richmond of Warwick, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Carissa, Caitlyn and Arabella Nickell; one niece, Andrea Nicole Breslin and many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Nickell; paternal grandparents, Ben and Gertrude Nickell; materal grandparents, Lee Roy and Tela Vance; and a granddaughter, Christyna Nickell.

Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 10, at the McColaugh Funeral Home in Xenia, with Rev. Charles Hemming officiating. Burial followed in the Glen Forest Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at http://www.mccolaughfuneralhome.com.
