White and black neighbors came together for a silent candlelight vigil on Sunday night for Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old African-American victim of a fatal shooting in Florida. Beth Bridgeman, who organized the event in one day and promoted it solely via Facebook, said the peace vigil was to “hold Trayvon, his family and ourselves as a nation up to the light.” At the vigil, Pastor Derrick Weston of the First Presbyterian Church prayed for peace and justice, telling those who gathered that he hopes someday these times are looked back upon as “barbaric.”
