Yellow Springs High School freshman Cameron Haught recently qualified for the USA Track and Field nationals next June when he competed in a 10 kilometer race in St. Louis, Mo. Haught, who was second in the 15–16 men’s division at the USA Junior Olympic Nationals last July in North Carolina at the 3,000 distance, walked the metric equivalent to 6.214 miles, in 53 minutes and 47 seconds. It was his first official race at this distance, which is contested international at all major international track and field competitions for 15–19 year old men.

Meanwhile, McKinney Middle School track and field coach Isabelle Dierauer recently competed in the World Track and Field Championships for Masters Men and Women in Porte Alegre, Brazil. During the last two days of the competitions she earned two gold medals while running as a member of the U.S.A. relay team. The first came in the 4×100 meter relay when she ran the third leg on the winning U.S.A. women’s team. Several hours later she came back and ran lead-off leg (65.0) on the winning USA 4×400 relay.

Isabelle also competed in two individual events earlier in the meet. The first was the 100 meter dash, where she finished with the 11th fastest time for the women in the 40–44 age group, but did not make the finals. Then she participated in her best individual event, the long jump. There she soared to 16 feet, 8 inches, but this only placed her ninth in the women’s 40–44 competition.
