A huge crowd of people packed Short Street and Xenia Ave. to bring in the New Year. Though the countdown was not exactly audible, the enthusiasm ramped up at midnight. Revelers cheered as the ball was lifted and dropped again and again. Celebratory fireworks, floating paper lanterns and showers of champagne continued for some time after midnight.
