Many of the Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School students who entered work in the 2014 Miami Valley Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition received recognition this year. Awards fall in three categories, including honorable mention, silver key or gold key awards. Of 1,000 total submissions from the region, local students won dozens of awards for their work.

Pictured here are examples of the some of the winning pieces. From the top are: senior Benjamin Green’s “Still Life with Pipes” (silver key), junior Nadia Mulhall’s “Grime,” (silver key), senior Rachel Meyer’s “In the Window” (honorable mention), seventh grader Zachary Lugo’s “Zach” (silver key), Meyer’s “Lost in the Fabled Forest” (honorable mention),  Mulhall’s “Melt” (silver key) and “Powder Power” (honorable mention), and finally, seventh grader William Gray’s “William.”

Green was also one of five regional students to win a Best in Show award for his painting “Wasted Sleep” and one of eight students to be recognized for his total portfolio, named “Hard Work.”
