Donald Hutslar

Donald A. Hutslar, of Worthington, Ohio, and Yellow Springs, died on June 13, 2014. He was 82. He is survived by his wife Jean and son Caleb, a resident of Columbus.

A 1949 graduate of Bryan High School in Yellow Springs, Don received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University. After serving with the U.S. Army in Germany and furthering his education at the Ohio State University, he joined the history division of the Ohio Historical Society, from which he retired in 1995. He was later appointed to the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board, on which he served until his death.

Don’s published works include the book “The Architecture of Migration: Log Construction in the Ohio Country 1750–1850.” A later paperback edition was issued under the title “Log Construction in the Ohio Country 1750–1850.”

Burial will be private. Those wishing to remember Don by supporting his work might consider a gift to the Tecumseh Land Trust, which is dedicated to the preservation of agricultural land, open space and historic structures in Miami Township, Greene County, Ohio.
