The Yellow Springs School District this morning decided to close village schools because of significant overnight snowfall and plunging temperatures. The Antioch School soon followed suit. All sports and school-related events for this evening have also been cancelled.

The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy weather for Tuesday, with highs in the low 20s and a low around 10°F. Evening wind chill values could get as low as -10°F, with even colder weather into the teens predicted for Wednesday. Note that frostbite can occur on unprotected skin in as little as 30 minutes in these temperatures and windchill.

For more information, please call the village schools at 767-7381 or the Antioch School at 767-7642.

Wellness checks
Village police and Miami Township Fire Rescue will make rounds to check on people with known care issues. If you are concerned about someone’s welfare, please call the police so that they may check on them.

If you have no heat or are suffering from exposure-related issues, call 911. Please note that it is illegal for electric and gas providers to turn off services if the temperature falls below freezing.
