Beverly Ann Price
Beverly Ann Price, born February 16, 1929, was raised in western North Dakota in a large and loving family. She was a genuine prairie girl. All her life she loved the wide open spaces that the prairie offered. Summers were spent at a summer camp or on a ranch. She much preferred the latter.
Music lessons were taken for granted and hers included piano, violin and ballet. After graduating from high school in 1947, she attended Cornell College from 1947–1949 and the University of North Dakota from 1949–1951. She taught in the public schools of Florida and Minnesota. With a fellowship which included teaching in the demonstration school at the University of Iowa, she got her master’s degree in Supervisory Education in 1963. Together with Bill Mullins, she came to Antioch College as part of the education faculty.
She became the Middle Group teacher at the Antioch School and in time became the Younger Group (YG) teacher, where she remained until she retired in 1995, after 44 years of teaching/learning.
During those years she worked with NTL, working with school systems and students of all ages all over the United States. She felt that the children and other students that she lived with over these years were her teachers.
Gardening, reading, quilting, yoga, running and teaching were all interconnected for Bev. Singing with the community chorus, Bev Logan’s groups and the Berkshire Choral festival, which one year performed at the Canterbury Cathedral, were integral parts of her life. Her father, ever the Welshman, loved anything humorous and so her family and Welsh heritage said it all for Bev.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Mildred and David Price, brothers David (Janet), Robert (Fern), Leslie (Arlene), sister-in-law Lois Price, and nephew Tim Gretchell. She leaves her sister, Nancene, and brother-in-law, Dick Getchell, brother Llewellyn Price and many loving and caring nieces and nephews both near and far, especially Christopher and Christa Getchell and family, Gary and Karen Price and family, Mike and Laurie Price, Patti Jo Billens and family, and Jody Dritschel and family. Special friends are Megan Trolander and Jim Spangler, Patti An, Kathryn Van der Heiden, Grover Criswell, Diane Foubert, Ruth Bent, Rita Erickson, Margie Baldwin, Kit Crawford, Paulette Olson, Sue Neff, Fran LaSalle, Linda and Don Mates, Connie Blocker, Jeanne Joyce, Marian Glancy, Presbyterian Church friends, POETS friends, Shakespeare Study friends, PEO friends, Lori Deal, Mary Conrad, Jo Mangeot, Teresa Bonderant, and all the caring Hospice of Dayton staff. A memorial service will be held on June 23, 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Yellow Springs, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
