The regular season champion Winds Cafe Indians had the week off while the rest of the teams vied for the remaining post-season tournament seeding positions. However, after the final three games of the season, those positions did not change, despite a late season surge by the Tom’s Market Pirates.

The Pirates took a pair of games last week from the Vintage Truck Dragons but it was not enough to improve their third-place regular season finish behind the Dragons. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead and captured a 16–3 victory in the two team’s first meeting on Monday, July 20. With seven runs in the first three innings, the Pirates left no doubt about the eventual outcome. A first inning RBI double by Jason Knemeyer and an RBI single by Ethan Knemeyer were followed in the second with RBI singles by rookies Teddy Horvath and Sebastian Thompson, a Jack Horvath RBI ground out, and a Malcolm Blunt 2-run single to supply the early offense for the Pirates.

The Pirates exploded with seven runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away. The inning got off to a hot start with Jason Knemeyer’s two RBI triple, bringing home Malcolm Blunt and Marissa Goodman. That was followed up by Ben Espinosa’s RBI triple, scoring Knemeyer. Meanwhile, brother Ethan Knemeyer racked up five RBIs on four hits to lead the Pirates while Josh Clark’s fourth inning RBI triple and an eventual run scored led the Dragons.

The two teams met again on Saturday and the Pirates took a 4–1 victory thanks to Scout Espinosa, Teddy Horvath and Ethan Knemeyer all going 2–2 at the plate. The lead stayed with the Pirates after the first inning when Jack Horvath’s double scored brothers Teddy and Ethan Knemeyer. Noah Van Hoose then doubled to left in the second, scoring Marissa Goodman and Jason Knemeyer. The Dragons pushed across their only run in the fourth on an RBI single by Sam Linden that scored Josh Clark.

The week’s other contest saw the Peach’s Reds unable to come back against the Vintage Truck Dragons and losing 7–5 on Wednesday, July 22nd after falling behind by five runs in the third inning. The Reds grabbed an early 2–0 lead in the top of the first. A base hit from Jake Ortiz-Thornton got things started followed by base hits from Tallis Onfroy-Curley and an RBI single by Mateo Basora that scored Ortiz-Thornton. Lily Rainey’s RBI single then scored Onfroy-Curley.

But the Dragons responded quickly with a two-run inning of their own in the first to tie the game, scoring on an RBI double by Josh Clark to score Liam McClean and a Ruthie Myers RBI single to score Clark. The Dragons didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two more runs in the second when Owen Beitenhaus scored on a Kian Barker infield hit and then Quinn Creighton scored on a Ryan Scott fielder’s choice hit to the shortstop. The Dragons added three more in the third thanks to Josh Clark scoring on a bad throw, a Sam Linden RBI single to score Gabrielle Perkins and an Owen Beitenhaus RBI single to score Ruthie Myers. The Reds rallied, but fell short with three runs in the fifth on a base hit from Mateo Basora to score Avry Bell-Arment, a Lily Rainey base hit to score Onfroy-Curley and an Anthony Mascola RBI single plating Basora. Liam McClean went a perfect 3–3 at the plate to lead the Vintage Truck Dragons, while Mateo Basora led the Peach’s Reds with a banner day, racking up two RBIs on three hits.

The season’s final game, the post-season tournament championship, is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m., on the Major League field at Gaunt Park. Check the league website at http://www.leaguelineup.com/ysoyouthbb for the latest updated schedules, results and player statistics.
