Teacher misconduct probed

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A 25-year-veteran of Yellow Springs public schools is currently under investigation by the Yellow Springs Police Department regarding alleged sexual misconduct with a student.

According to a Nov. 24 report from the Springfield News Sun, longtime Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School social studies teacher Shawn Jackson was placed on administrative leave on Nov. 12, following a complaint from a female student’s family member that the relationship between Jackson and the student was inappropriate. At that point, according to the article, Yellow Springs High School Principal Tim Krier contacted the local police department to conduct an investigation.

Krier and Superintendent Mario Basora were unavailable for comment on Wednesday of this week due to Thanksgiving vacation, and Police Chief Dave Hale was also not available. However, a police department employee confirmed that an investigation into the allegation is ongoing.

Jackson lives in Clark County and is a member of the Southeastern Local School board. His classes are currently being taught by a substitute teacher.

Jackson has long been active in the teachers’ union, the Yellow Springs Education Association, and served as president of that group. He also has shared his interest in the political process with his students, holding mock elections each year in his classroom following a unit of study focused on the political process.
