Before ringing in 2017, villagers will gather to celebrate two more holidays in the season’s rich string of them. Both celebrations are open to all interested villagers.

Thursday, Dec. 29, 6–9 p.m. — The annual YS Kwanzaa celebration will be held at the Bryan Center. The event will begin with a community potluck, and those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Festivities will also include African drumming and dancing; a youth talent showcase in 12 and under and teen categories, with prizes awarded in both; line dancing; the “Kids Kuumba Korner,” with arts and crafts; and the presentation of the YS Kwanzaa Griot Award to a special community elder. The celebration is free and all are welcome to attend.

Friday, Dec. 30, 6:30 p.m. — The third annual YS Havurah Hanukkah party and latke contest will be held at the Katz-Stein House, located at 320 Kingsfield Ct. The festivities will include food, fun, dreidles and other games, and a latke contest, with both traditional and “wild card” categories. Those attending are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Drinks, condiments and prizes will be provided. All are welcome to attend. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to abi.katz [at] yahoo [dot] com or 510-502-0873.
