Cello Springs Festival 2017

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Cellists and cello lovers, take note! The 2017 Cello Springs Festival is coming to the village in the new year, Jan. 4–14. Cello Springs is an exploration of the cello and the ways it can connect people. A core group of six musicians, joined by others stopping by for the festival, will practice, play, enjoy workshops, reach out to young cellists — and perform a series of free concerts at different locations throughout Yellow Springs.

The opening concert will be held at the Antioch Foundry Theater on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m. For a full schedule of concerts, see the Cello Springs Festival website.

Cello Springs is the fruit of many years of collaboration between three cellists who have deep ties to Yellow Springs: Chiara Enderle of Zurich, granddaughter of Yellow Springs resident Peg Champney and former Friends Music Camp, or FMC, camper; Miriam Liske-Doorandish, junior at Oberlin College/Conservatory and former FMC camper; and Lisa Liske-Doorandish of Virginia, a longtime teacher at FMC.

Other core participants are Joshua Dent, a touring cellist and teacher based in Nashville; Malina Rauschenfels, a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer; and cellist David Skrill. This year’s cello apprentice is 13-year-old David Smith, a student of Lisa Liske-Doorandish.

Cellists who are interested in taking part may inquire through the festival website.
