Varsity Volleyball

The Varsity volleyball team ended its season in tournament play last Thursday against Greeneview High School. In an exciting game that was a battle from the first point, the Bulldogs fell to the Rams in four games 14–25, 25–18, 16–25, 22–25. The Bulldogs played one of their best matches all season. Tyler Linkhart led the team with 13 points, 4 aces, 12 kills, 16 assists, 8 blocks and 16 digs, followed by Alex Ronnebaum with 3 points (3 aces), 15 kills and 8 digs. Emma Ronnebaum put up 6 points, and had 5 kills, 13 assists and 4 blocks. Kelsie Lemons had a great night, serving up 10 points, 2 aces, 1 kill, 2 assists and 8 digs, while Elle Peifer put down 3 kills, 3 points, 1 ace, 1 assist, 1 block and 13 digs. Elly Kumbusky contributed 8 digs along with Payden Kegley’s 27 digs for the match.

“It was a hard game to lose, but the team played really well. The score doesn’t reflect how close of a match this really was,” said Coach Chris Linkhart. “This team fought for balls that earlier in the season they would have given up on. They’ve come a long way this season. They left everything they had on the court. They should be proud of the way they played tonight. I’m so proud of them — their love of the sport was apparent tonight. I’m really going to miss this group. But kudos to Greeneview for a well played match.”

The Bulldogs ended their season with a record of 15–6.

Varsity Girls Soccer

Girls soccer finished their season with a tournament loss to Miami East on Monday. The final score was 5–0, but the game was more competitive than the score showed. Twenty-two minutes in, Miami East scored their first goal. The Bulldogs were still in the game at halftime, down 2–0. After Miami East scored their fourth goal, Coach Houchins put in the bench to ensure that they got some playing time.

Cross Country

Playing host to nearly 1,000 runners and 30 schools in the single largest athletic competition at YSHS each year, the 32nd Annual Young’s Cross Country Invitational brought forth inspiring competition and personal bests by the majority of the Bulldog runners.

The YSHS Boys finished in sixth place out of 12 teams totaling 156 runners. Seven of the eight YSHS runners achieved personal bests led by junior Mark Bricker who ran to a 12th place finish with a time of 17:47. Fellow junior Zach Lugo crossed the line in 21st with a time of 18:16. Senior Kaden Boutis ran a lifetime best of 18:54. Eli Capasso (72nd), Jackson Bleything (84th), Griffin Roberts (136th), Gideon Naziri (139th) and Elijah Naziri (150th) also ran well.

The McKinney girls continued their dominance, placing 7th out of 13 large schools. Avery Reeder led the charge with a personal best time of 13:36 and a 22nd finish. Cheyan Sundell-Turner (26th), Sophia Lawson (35th) and Lily Rainey (42nd) also ran great races. As always, the depth of the team was evident with Maggie Knopp, Rosemary Burmester, Josie Dewine and Carina Basora also running season best times.

The McKinney boys ran in the largest race of the day, with 246 competitors. They rose to the challenge, with Krishan Miller running a season best time of 12:49, followed closely by Ethan Knemeyer in a fine time of 13:10. Josh Clark, Leif Walters and Jason Knemeyer all broke the 15-minute barrier for the first time this year. Maddox Flatt, Luka Sage-Frabotta, Liam McClean and Tallis Onfroy-Curley all ran their best times of the year.

This past Saturday, the high school boys and girls teams ran at the district meet which was held at Cedarville University. This meet featured 35 schools. The boys team finished in 26th place, with junior Mark Bricker once again leading the pack with a time of 18:37 (67th) and Zach Lugo running in 91st place.
