Fred Rogers welcomed generations of Americans into his “Neighborhood” with kindness and comfort. As his iconic children’s show observes its 50th anniversary, the Little Art Theatre and ThinkTV are partnering to host a Mister Rogers weekend in the Yellow Springs neighborhood.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”, from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, looks back on the legacy of Fred Rogers, focusing on his radically kind ideas. While the nation changed around him, Fred Rogers stood firm in his beliefs about the importance of protecting childhood.

Jenny Cowperthwaite, executive director of the Little Art said, “I thought it was important to bring this film to the Little Art. We are clearly living through very divisive times during this chapter of history, and quite simply, we could all benefit by spending a little time with Mister Rogers and be reminded of his kindness.”

Events are as follows:

Friday, July 6, 7:30 p.m., Little Art Theatre The Yellow Springs debut of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” followed by Q&A with villager Jim Wiener, chief programming officer of Public Media Connect, who worked at WQED during the filming of “Mister Rogers Neighborhood.”

Saturday, July 7, 1 p.m., Little Art Theatre — Free kids’ screening of “Daniel Tiger: Life’s Little Lessons,” based on the Neighborhood of Make-Believe and the television series created by Fred Rogers. Kids are invited to come early and enjoy special hands-on activities on the sidewalk in front of the Little Art and take a selfie with Daniel Tiger.

The film will continue to screen from Sunday–Tuesday, July 8–10, and Thursday, July 12.
