Equine-facilitated learning pioneer Linda Kohanov will lead “The Power Behind Nonviolence: Horse Sense for Challenging Times,” in Yellow Springs this Friday–Sunday, June 28–30.

Kohanov will demonstrate and teach the skills she learned while rehabilitating a dangerous and formerly abused stallion, showing how these skills can be translated into communicating effectively with challenging people.

Kohanov is an Arizona-based author, speaker, riding instructor and horse trainer. She is and an innovator in the field of Equine Experiential Learning and a writer on the subject of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy, according to her website. Kohanov is the author of The Tao of Equus, Riding Between the Worlds, Way of the Horse, The Power of the Herd and The Five Roles of a Master Herder.

The event is sponsored by Antioch University and The Riding Center. Attendees may attend one day or three days, and some scholarships are available. No horse experience is necessary.

According to villager Faith Morgan, who is bringing the workshop:

“I was a little girl who just had to have a horse. Classes at the Riding Centre, begging until my parents bought Smokey Joe, an old Riding Centre horse. I rode him everywhere with other YS kids. I’m 69 now and horses have a new place in my life, as I learn from Linda Kohanov of Arizona, how interacting with them can be empowering and healing. To share this, I have invited Linda to lead a workshop [this weekend.]”
