Spring athletes honored

Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School athletes who participated in spring sports were recognized with a variety of awards as the season concluded at the end of May.

In baseball, the Bulldog Award went to Colton Bittner, while Dylan Rainey earned  the Coach’s Award and received a 4 Year Award.

Rainey also was named to the First Team of the all-Metro Buckeye Conference, or MBC, and Tariq Muhammad was named to the conference’s Second Team. Bittner was given the conference’s sportsmanship award.

In softball, Abegayle Florence earned the Bulldog Award, and Zoe Lafferty received the Coach’s Award.

Both Florence and Lafferty were named to the conference’s First Team, and Becca Spencer and Bre Wallace were named to the Second Team. Wallace also received the conference’s sportsmanship award.

The high school boys track squad’s Teymour Fultz earned the Bulldog Award, and Zach Lugo received the Coach’s Award.

Fultz also made the MBC’s First Team.

Lugo, Raven Campbell and Harper Mesure each earned a 4 Year Award, and Mesure was awarded the league’s sportsmanship award.

In high school girls track, Annlyn Foster received the Bulldog Award, while Haneefah Jones earned the Coach’s Award.

Foster, Malaya Booth and Sophie Lawson were all named to the MBC First Team. And Jude Meekin received a 4 Year Award and earned the conference sportsmanship honor.

For the tennis squad, Forrest Rowe earned the Bulldog Award, and Olivia Snodder received the Coach’s Award. Rowe also received a 4 Year Award.

Rowe, Snoddy and Tyler Linkhart made the MBL First Team, and Ian Sherk earned the conference sportsmanship award.

 McKinney Middle School boys track athlete, Samuel Trelawny, earned the Bulldog Award and Sven Meister the Coach’s Award.

McKinney girls track athlete Cheyan Sundell-Turner received the Bulldog Award and Siobhan McCann-Stewart the Coach’s Award.

MBC coaches singled out high school athletes Dylan Rainey (baseball) and Abegayle Florence (softball) for special recognition, while the National Federation of State High School Associations chose tennis player Forrest Rowe and girls track athlete Jude Meekin for its excellence award.

Additionally, Rainey and Rowe were nominated for the Penn Station Athlete of the Year Award, and track and field’s Kelli Baxter and tennis player David Walker were named Archie Griffin Award winners. Rainey and softball co-captain Lily Bryan were named Scholar Athletes as well.
