Robin Goodfellow

Dr. Robin Goodfellow, of Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away on Aug 26, 2019. She was 74.

Robin was born in Xenia on April 14, 1945, the daughter of the late W. Douglas and Irene K. (Kirkland) Goodfellow. She graduated from Bryan High School in Yellow Springs in 1963 and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1967. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1971. She was featured in People Magazine on May 10, 1976, as the first female chief surgical resident at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.

Following her residency in Boston, Robin practiced medicine and surgery in and around the Jackson and Albion area for many years. After her retirement from surgery, she became a board-certified ringside physician for the U.S. Boxing Olympic Team and served in this capacity at the London Olympics in 2012. She also served as a ringside physician for the Junior Boxing Federation. She loved world-wide travel and enjoyed taking photographs of her travels. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening and needlework.

Robin is survived by her brothers, Dr. James D. (Vickie) Goodfellow of Enon, Ohio; and Dr. Donald B. (Kathy) Goodfellow, of Lyndhurst, Ohio. She doted on her nieces and nephews, Susan Goodfellow, Pamela (Eric Thomas) Goodfellow, Jessica (Rusty) Rizzotte, Christina Goodfellow, Eric (Maddie) Goodfellow, Alex (Diana) Goodfellow, Julianne Goodfellow and Colin Goodfellow; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Henry Rizzotte, Gemma Thomas, Alessandro and Katheleya Goodfellow. She is also survived by her good friend, Dr. Charles (Penny) Butler, of Kalamazoo.

The family will honor her memory in private. Her cremated remains will be interred next to her parents in Glen Forest Cemetery in Yellow Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G.     Oh, my goodness. Such sad news to hear about Robin. I always admired her and as we all got older, at our reunions, I realized what a wonderful sense of humor she had. She was a very delightful person as well as being brilliant!!!!
