The Yellow Springs Pride Committee will kick off the annual Pride celebrations with a car parade on Saturday, June 27, followed by live streamed speakers, music and the announcement of the winners of the “Most Prideful Yard” contest.

For the parade, participating cars will line up in the parking lot of Xylem at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m., after a proclamation from Mayor Pam Conine, the parade will proceed from Xylem to Hyde Road, down Spillan Road, Meadow Lane and Allen, Livermore and East Davis streets before turning onto Xenia Avenue. The parade will continue down Corry and Dayton streets, to Walnut Street, Polecat Road, Whitehall Drive, Fairfield Pike and North High Street, returning to Dayton Street and ending at Antioch Midwest. Parade planners estimate that the parade will take around an hour to complete. A limited number of spots for cars are available; visit the parade’s event page at http://www.facebook.com/events/821481718378003 to reserve a spot.

The parade will also feature a drag contest, with three categories: “Miss,” “Mister” and “It’s Yo Thing.” To participate, message YS Pride via the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ys.pride to receive a number. Participants will display their contest numbers, and those attending the parade are encouraged to vote for their favorite contestants on the YS Pride Facebook page. Each category winner will receive a prize.

Following the parade, at 6 p.m. Michael Hawk, Rick Incorvati, Kent Brooks, Chasilee Crawford and representatives from Equitas Health will speak live, streaming from the YS Pride Facebook page at facebook.com/ys.pride. Following the speakers, a Facebook Live dance party will be held at 7 p.m. on the same page, with music from DJ AZA. At 8 p.m., the results of the “Most Prideful Yard” competition will be announced.

For the “Most Prideful Yard” competition, all residents of Yellow Springs are eligible. Decorations must be outside and on the street-facing side of buildings. Judging criteria will be creative use of lights, decoration placement, storyline and/or theme and overall presentation. Participants must submit a photo of their decorated yard by 12 a.m. on Friday, June 26, to the YS Pride Facebook page; all entries must be hashtagged “#prideyardcontest2020.” The photo with the most Facebook likes on Saturday, June 27 will be dubbed “Most Prideful Yard in Yellow Springs.”
