December 7th, January 4th, and February 1st, 5:30-7 p.m. Winter Land Walk: Tracking & Animal Signs , in-person at Agraria Farm. Enjoy the natural, wintry beauty of Agraria and search for animal tracks in the snow during this monthly walk with youth educator Celia Montemurri. December 14th, January 11th, and February 8th, 5:30-7 p.m. Winter Seed Starting Series , in- person at Agraria Farm. Kick-start your vegetable and flower growing season with this three-part series. We will go over project set up and materials needed, how to build your own indoor seed starting rack with lights, heat mats, and timers, how to make a great custom seed starting medium, and best practices for starting seeds in trays. Participants will receive an information packet (including Land Director Jeremy Schleining’s custom seed rack design) and materials list so they can recreate lessons at home. Thursdays, November 29th-February 7th, 3-5 p.m. Winter Trekkers Wednesdays, November 30th- February 8th, 1-4 p.m. Winter Home School, Agraria Farm Children in the afterschool Winter Trekkers program (for ages 6-12) and Winter Home School are supported to develop a stronger connection to themselves, the natural world, and their community. Through exploring, stories, play, traditional skills, and crafts, they will learn about plant identification, animal tracking, shelter building, fire safety, bird language, storytelling, and more December 28th-30th. Find Your Way Camp: Winter Orienteering , in-person at Agraria Farm. This active, three-day outdoor winter camp focuses on learning the art of navigation known as orienteering. Children ages 6-12 will learn how to find North using clues from nature, use a compass to follow directions to a secret place, and how to measure distance and direction on a map to discover a hidden treasure. Saturday, January 14th, 3:00-4:30 p.m. Soil, Seed & Soul: An Educator Training on the Life & Career of George Washington Carver, virtual. Join us on Martin Luther King Day weekend as we lift up the legacy of George Washington Carver. Led by Omopé Carter Daboiku, Agraria’s Story and Media Artist, the training will provide educators, parents, librarians, historians, and others with information about Carver, the impact he has had on regenerative agriculture today, and the future plans for the Carver Farm at Agraria. Curricular materials aligned with state standards will be available. Fee for the workshop is $10. 4th Wednesdays: Jan 25, Feb 22, March 22, April 26, May 24, 2023, 5:30-7:00 p.m. Mama O’s Writing Club , in-person at Agraria Farm. Join Omopé Carter Daboiku for a fun, informal writing series. Participants will sip soup, write to guided prompts, and 50 AGRARIA JOURNAL 2022 2022-2023 Events & Programs
