I was hired at the last minute at the Head Start program in Cambridge by the director of the settlement house agency administering the funds. The director had had Antioch co-op stu- dents at a previous agency and said she knew that as an Antioch grad,“I could hit the ground running.” My whole career was in early childhood education: I have been a Head Start teacher and director, ther- apeutic nursery school teacher and supervisor at a community mental health center, a state policy wonk with a child care licensing agency,col- lege faculty member, early child-hood AmeriCorps program director, and a variety of consulting, training andmen- toring jobs. I completed my master’s at Tufts and certificate of advanced graduate studies from Wheelock College. Before I retired, I wanted to return to classroom teaching which I had been away from for 40 years. Since I also love to travel, I went to West Africa to teach kindergarten for three years at an international school. I kept a blog about my experience, ma-prochaine-aventure@blogspot. com. PERSONAL LIFE I lived in Cambridge or Brook- line, Mass., from 1965 to 2009, until I left for Africa. I was married from 1971 to 2008. My two wonder- ful children both live in New York City. When I returned fromAfrica in 2012, I retired to this amazing little village in western Massachusetts, Shelburne Falls. I was a bike commuter for my whole working life, except the nine years between the birth of my first child and the second one starting kindergarten when I needed a car for day care transpor- tation. I love bike touring. My an- nual Cape Cod bike trip has yet to get old.Another favorite activity is swimming, which I used to do al- most every day. I love to travel. During those years in the Boston area, I spent 10 weeks in USSR and eastern Europe in 1969, so I missedWoodstock; vis- ited Morocco, Caribbean islands, toured western Europe; multiple trips to Denmark to visit relatives, including a bike trip with my son; explored England with my daugh- ter, two trips to India, one for my nephew’s wedding. Travels around U.S. and Canada too numerous to mention. Me with my son, Eben and daughter, Inga.
